jones fracture

I broke my 5th metatarsal on my right foot on may 30, 2014. I stepped off a step and my foot turned and I heard a popping sound. I went to the hospital (in a foreign country) and the doctor put me in a cast without setting my foot for 4 weeks. At the end of June I went to a different doctor and he said my bone had been displaced and it was too late to do anything because it has been healing for too long. So, at 7 1/2 weeks, I went to a different doctor and they took my cast off. It has now been 5 weeks since that day and my foot is still in pain.
When I walk at times, I feel my bone pop. Sometimes I will feel a shooting pain in my foot and the bone is bigger than the other foot. I don’t know what to do at this point…
I have been taking calcium. I don’t know if I am doing too much on my foot, I don’t want to cause more damage. How do I know if I need surgery or not? I know this will be hard to say because you haven’t seen my xrays, but is this worth seeing a doctor? I am in a foreign country now and would have to leave this country in order to see a doctor.
Thanks for any help you can give!!

A Jones fracture is different from an avulsion type fracture of the base of the 5th metatarsal. HAve you had confirmation you have a Jones fracture? If so, then these have a historical high rate of not healing without surgery. You should be either non weight bearing on crutches or at the very least immobilized in a cast boot until you have some reasonable explanation of the prognosis. I do not recommend you walking on this with the pain you describe. While taking calcium is a good idea in general, it is not necessarily going to help you heal faster. You did not indicate what country you are in but preferably see an orthopedist not a family doctor. Good luck.
