knee pain

(2 discussions)

I have a medial menicus tear.
Why does this cause pain and instability when applying weight while bending down? My understanding is that the menicus just acts as a cushion between the femur and tibula.

The meniscus does act as a shock absorber but it also depends the joint. When you bend your knee as in going down stairs or squating down, lots of the force is transmitted thru the meniscus. That is why it hurts. Avoid these activites.

: I have had a medial menicus tear, and had it repaired by surgury over six months ago. I constantly keep swelling up around the region of previous damage. Is this common? Should I fight through the pain? It swells as large as a softball sometimes.
