knees

(3 discussions)

Hi.
I just started running cross country and since then my knees have hurt. It is the same feeling/ hurt I noticed when I bent my knees when I used to ice skate.
I am bo-legged, and one physical therapist tried to allign my knees properly. She said I should take time off until they are “healed.” However, another doctor said my knees would hurt until I stopped growing, and he said he saw a lot of cases like me. (I think they are common. It’s my potella (I know I spelled that incorrectly) that is, I believe, rubbing into the surrounding bones on impact, and I feel it when I run and play tennis and squash. (But not as much in the last two) I am very confused. Any advice would be very much appriciated. Thank you soooo much!

Yes- I am! Sorry, I forgot to tell you that I did receive custom orthotics, and it still hurts. It usually sore after practice. Is this normal? Basically, I don’t mind the hurting except I don’t want to ruin my knees for good in the future. Thank you very much once again

Pain is a warning sign. If you ignore it, it can get worse. I recommend you see an orthopedist to have this further evaluated.

I am guessing you are a teenager. If your patella does not track properly you can have pain. Sometimes the orthopedists do a lateral release. You might consider wearing an orthotic to control the motion of your feet rolling in. A custom orthotic is probably better than a Dr. Scholl’s arch support.
