knot on top of foot

I have a knot on the top of my foot – it is not painful or sore but is very noticeable.
Seems like it has increased in size in the past weeks.
I first noticed it about a month ago. I am puzzled – but I am not a doctor.
Is this common?

There are several things that come to mind that might qualify as a “knot” such as a ganglion, lipoma, or even a bone spur. You need to have this looked at to get a good answer.
