Long Term Heel Pain

(3 discussions)

I have been diagnosed with Planter Fascitias and heel spurs. The problem started last April when I stomped my foot on uneven ground to scare away an animal.
I did not seek medical treatment for the first two weeks thinking it would go away. But it did not.Several trips to the doctor were of little or no help but arch supports seemed to help somewhat. Finially I went to a PDM and after 6 trips he had some hard fiberglass? 3/4 orthodics made for me. This helped some and my foot has improved over time. But it is now almost 10 months later and I am still having pain. It has never completely gone away for more that a few hours at a time. I always feel something in my heel and sometimes arch. What should I try next? Any ideas?

If you have not returned to your podistrist, I recommend you do so. There are still conservative options which might be available. Surgery is also an option, but you really need to discuss this with your doctor.

I have the same condition. About 9 years ago I went to my podiatrist, I had three cortisone injections per foot over about 13 months. When the pain came back, he gave me a brace that caused me to have to stretch my leg muscle, dorsi-flexing my foot. I have had no severe pain since, and when it feels like it’s going to start, I use that brace even today. The brace isn’t to walk with, just when you watch tv or are in bed, or sitting around. It feels good to hurt no more.

I have been having the same problem for well over a year now and I have never been checked. I just bare the pain and it’s getting to the point that I will not be able to do that for much longer. What was the final outcome? And has the pain been taken away completely?
