lost toe nail

I lost my 2 big toe nails last fall while training for a marathon.
I kept them clean and dry, the nails came off in the shower, and are growing back nicely.
My ?? is…they seem to be pushing at the tip of my toe, not growing over it like the previous nail did.
Is this normal?
Is there a danger they could become ingrown?

It takes up to a year for the new nail to grow back fully. In order to attach, it has to scrape at the nail bed that has dried out. Also, it grows in sheets and you just may be seeing the continuing growth of the nail.
