Lost toenail

(3 discussions)

The front door and my second toe nail recently had a battle and the door won.
The toenail was completely removed from the nail bed and I now have a very painful toe end.
I have a few questions as I’ve never had this happen and have no idea what to expect in the healing process.
The event happened 36 hours ago.
For the first 12 hours, we dabbed the toe to clean away the seeping blood and I elevated the foot (and took lots of pain reliever!).
I slept with a bandaid on the toe to cover/protect the nail bed but that was very painful.
The bandaid was changed in the morning and was worn all the next day.
I removed it last night to allow the nail bed to air out.
This morning it is still seeping although the seepage is gooey and not bloody.
I was going to leave it open but since I have to work, I felt that it was in everyone’s best interest if I wore the bandaid to cover/protect again.
Now… here’s the questions…how long will it seep???should I cover or uncover??what can I do to make sure the new nail growth is healthy??will flying/presuure changes be a problem???how long before it isn’t so sensative and I can wear a regular shoe??
Thanks!!!

My big toe nail came off half way. I have a suitcase fall on it. It made my nail flip back half way. I have it covered up and I noticed a litte bit of puss what do I do? How do I take care of it?
