Misdiagnosed?

I have been on the peripheral neuropathy train for almost a year now. I have no tests that reflect that my symptoms come from low B12….diabetes….cancer…skin biopsy negative. So…it’s idiopathic. Taking neurontin…horrible drug. I find that vicodin takes away the pain. Also…after skiing in tight boots it was much worse last night. I still think that it’s morton’s neuroma. But, the neurologist doesn’t buy it. Is there a definitive test I can have that can rule this out. It is in both feet, and palpatating by a podiatrist didn’t really show the distinctive clicking. But I do feel that there is tenderness and swelling in both of my feet.

I certainly am not a neurologist so I can't argue this point, but I still think it is your back. I know of patients who have referred pain to their feet, but don't have symptoms going down their leg.

I can not comment if the diagnosis is correct or not. Many times a diagnosis is arrived at through a process of elimination. Sensory neuropathy can be difficult to diagnose with conventional testing. One thought I had that you did not mention is tarsal tunnel syndrome. Has anyone mentioned that? Do you have any low back trouble?

I do have a bad back. Stenosis…L4/L5. Mild bulging. I went downhill skiing the other day and my feet burned all night. I thought it was due to the new boots putting pressure on the toes. I was told that it couldn’t be my back, because it doesn’t refer down my leg, and it is in both feet.

Do you have a suggestion? My numbness is only on the bottoms of my toes and balls of my feet. Nothing on the top of my feet.
