MRI Lumbar Spine Interpretation

(8 discussions)

I am confused on my findings of my lumbar MRI which states:The spine is imaged from T12 through S1 in sagittal sections, the vertebral bodies are normally aligned, and the conus medullaris ends at L1-2.
The intervertebral discs from L3-4 through L5-S1 have all lost signal, indicating degenerative change. The last sentence is of concern to me and I can’t seem to find out exactly what it means, “have lost all signal”? Could this explain why I have severe muscle spasms in this area to the degree that at times I can’t hold up my own body weight and have to lie straight in bed for a few days?

: I don’t understand this at all. I do know that my lower back pain never stop hurting and is getting worse. I had to walk up 7 flights of stairs for two week because the elevator in the bidg was broke. I slipped on the stairway and I have not been the same since. Can you help me decipher this report. Thank You Jacquelyn Collins

there is significant degenerative disc diease present at the l5-S1 level. Reactive bony changes are seen in the adjacent end plate marrow. Anterior osteophytes are present. There is anterior bulging of disc material. there is a small central posterior and right posterior paracentral protrusion of disc material at the L5-S1 level also present which appears to come in contact with the anterior aspect of the right S1 nerve root. A significant degree of central canal stenosis is demonstrated. no lateral recess of foraminal stenosis is seen at any level.Minimal facet related degenerative changes are present. The conus terminates at the L1-1-2 disc space level. I am having severe lower back pain and shoulder pain, also pain in legs is this normal for just a lumbar muscle sprain or is ther something else going on with my back thank you.

lumbaar shows disc l5-s1 narrowing with a minimal buldge at the neural foramen. disc is black, degenerated and appears to have an internam disc derangement and thre is a diffuse loss of integrity of that disc. I s pt a candadite for artificial disc.

I think that what happened was you did herniate some discs and from what I understand the only way to help yourself from getting better is to take it easy, use good posture, excercise without uncomfortability, drink a lot of water. And you have to pray that it will get better. I’ve been told herniated discs will remain for the rest of your life.
