neck clicking/ and or snapping

(13 discussions)

About a month ago I was sitting at my friends when all the sudden I hear this crunching noise in the back of my head. Right after that I found I had a click when I looked from the left to the right. It has NOT gone away and when I get too many clicks I start to feel dizzy. I can not avoid looking to the right when I drive and check my blind spots.
I saw an orthopedic surgeon last week, he took x-rays and didn’t find anything. He told me it could be a degeneration of the spine which happens in our 20s but you don’t start to feel it until your 40’s. Well I seriously don’t think this is the case. I also mentioned I saw a chiropractor about 15 years ago. He went through the whole routine of cracking my entire body, I believe by starting with my legs then my arms and then my neck. Well the second session when he got to my neck I resisted. Ever since then occassonally my neck falls into this position that feels it’s not connected properly and have trouble looking to the right. Well now I had that crunching noise then find out I have this click in my neck. What can I DO? Please, if you have ANY information on this please email me back, thank you.

It is virtually impossible to diagnosis from this website. I recommend a 3rd opinion

I have exactly the same problem, I am 22 and I have visited the chiropractor on many occasion but yet my neck still click really violently when I turn right or tilt my head fom side to side, the clicking makes it feel loads better but I believe it will do me more damage so I try to resist doing it unless its really painful,i have been taking cod liver tablets for 3years and they have helped it a lot but it still occasionally comes back…maybe something to try yourself, hope this helpsDarren

I have the same problem too. Massage didn’t help, didn’t try a chiropractor yet.At some point I was able to get rid of one side of the clicks (for me it is different clicks between left and right) by sleeping without a pillow and head flat so the muscles get stretched. For some reason though it worked for a while but now it is back. I think it has allot to do with neck flexibility, in some instances anyways.Another exercise I do which helps is I lay on the floor daily on back and put two books under my head. That will release allot of the tension on neck. It won’t solve it, but will help.Sal.

My neck clicks when I move it from side to side. Sometimes I feel it in my back and shoulders. I try stretching and that gives me temporary releif, however, I don’t know if that is good or doing more harm. What could have caused this and what can I do to cure it?

The medical term for it is “neck crepitus”.

I have had this to. Mine makes my head stop turning when I’m trying to turn or raise my head and then it makes a terrible snapping noise followed by dizziness.
