nerve release?

dr. abrams, how long would you wait until you started considering doing an operation to release a superficial pereneal nerve? I sprained my ankle in september 2014. and after a long series of tests and based on the symptoms, my doctors think that the nerve may be caught on scar tissue. would 7 months and no real improvment indicate that surgery is whats needed? or is that too short of a time span?
thank you,justin

The answer is not something that one can simply look up in a book. There can be numerous factors involved. The degree of the problem, the length of time, rule out any other causes such as the low back area. If you are experiencing atrophy of muscles then that might weigh into the consideration. I recommend you get your test results and get another opinion where the doctor can review the facts and observe your problem first hand.
