Nueroma

(2 discussions)

Okay, my MRI came back showing that I had a neuroma between the 1st and 2nd metatarsals – I’m being fitted for orthotics next week – how long does it usually take before I would feel any relief?
Thanks

that all depends on the extent of the neuroma and how much pain you are currently experiencing. Orthotic therapy goes after the cause of the mechanical issue which may incite the pain, so in a way it is approaching the pain indirectly (long term focus). make sure you communicate w/ your doctor on the level of pain you are having so that if they decide it is appropriate they may also choose to address it more directly. I think orthotic therapy is a great treatment regimen

Hi Tim -The level of pain depends on the time of day and my current activity. Driving or standing for any length of time is moderately painful but apparently, so is sleeping. I have been regularly (like every night for the past two weeks) been awoken with excrutiating pain between two and four every morning. Do you think cortisone shots are in order – along with the orthotics? Plus, the pain has been in my first two toes all along (many, many weeks longer than the past two) and now it seems to be migrating to the middle toe as well. Could something else be going on or am I being hypochondriacal?
