numb pinky and wrist pain

(2 discussions)

Hi… I’m a massage therapist and I do web page design, and I’ve had persistent numbness in my right pinky with pain in the wrist for about 4 days. I’m pretty sure that this is impairment of the ulnar nerve from the way I rest my elbow on the desk. What I’m wondering is: will it go away on it’s own, and would it do me any good to see a doctor? Is there anything I can do about this on my own, besides just rest, and how much rest should I need? How long should I wait to see someone? And what would a doctor or PT do about this problem?

I have the same type of numbness after riding a bike on rough roads. It seems to take weeks to get rid of but it goes away for me.

I too suffer from the same problem. I am a truck driver, and the vibrations from the steering wheel and shifter can sometime trigger the symptoms. They last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
