Orthopaedic insert for plantar fasciitis throw off spine alignment?

I recently was prescribed a custom foot orthotic for the treatment of a 10 month bout with plantar fasciitis. Not sure if it’s helping with that or not, but my question is – can an orthotic like this put my back and neck out of alignment.
I am having some serious neck stiffness since I started using them.
I had had this neck problem in the past, but have had little problem with it for years. Am I imagining things?

Dear Jane, It is not uncommon for a new insert to throw off the normal gait and mechanics of your posture. There should be measures taken to address whether or not you need a heel lift on one side or the other, or if your gait has changed since the application of the fascitis insert. I would take a look at an AP lumbo/sacral X-ray and see if you have pelvic unleveling. If you do, than you have to address it when you add any type of insert. Good luck!
