OSD and running from ages 12-18

Hello,I’ve been a runner since I was in the 4th grade. I’m now a freshmen in college and have grown to 6’3 and weigh 190 lbs. I used to be able to run 4:45 mile times and now get around 5:00. I’ve always been a long distance runner, which has put an additional strain on my knees. I was diagnosed with OSD after the 7th grade, when I started running track and field. I took 8 months off from every type of physical activity and essentially the swelling appeared to go away. I refused to run in high school, but have taken up running in college and have started running marathons. I recently ran a marathon and my left knees is killing me. In my opinion, the only treatment is rest. wraps, ice, heat, vitamins, they all are good alternatives, but time off is the ONLY true cure. So for runners, athletes in general, and other people out there that are curious, my adivce is to work on your form as to conserve as much energy in you painful knee or knees and stretch really well.I’m almost certain I’m done with growing, but I have a feeling the pain will always be there. I’ve begun to endure the pain during long runs like marathons. It’s just waking up the next morning unable to walk that still bugs me.Please feel free to email me at [email protected]
