I have been diagnosed with OSD, a few days ago. I am now 13 pushing 14. I am a vwery active person and need to recover very quickly, as I am very commited to playing rugby for my school, and local team. I also have trials for the county and a tour quite soon is there anything I can do to speed up my recovery? my doctor has prescribed me a gel called “piroxicam” to rub in the affected area. all other websites say that it should heal within 6 – 18 months. I havn’t got tht long it’s gotta be done in 4 – 5! PLEASE HELP!

Matthew,It is essential that you do a lot (3 times daily) of Hamstring stretching; that will decrease the Osgoods, as will some (gentle) Quadricep muscle stretching. If you can decrease the amount of sprinting and (any) kicking, during practices, that will also help you to decrease the amount of inflammation. In addition to your Rx Anti-Inflammatory cream, you should also apply ice to the area several times daily (15 minutes each time), especially after practices. Please try the above for a couple of weeks and then let us know how you are doing. Good luck!

Today I was diagnosed with OSD but I’ve been feelig the pain for about 2 months. I am 12 years old and playing basketball right now . I think I should quit before the pain worsens . I just want to know how to end it or how long it will last . Thanks .
