muscle spasm ?

This is pathetic, since I consider myself an athlete normally. Yesterday I wasn’t exercising – I was quite lazy, in fact.
Walking to the mailbox I had a sudden crippling pain from my mid back ribs to the same place on the other side (under my left breast). If I try to twist in either direction, there is a lot of pain.
Pathetic.
Walking to the mailbox, for God’s sake.
Should I see my chiropractor, or wait it out?

bicep injury

(2 discussions)

I participated in a 60 minute circuit training session on Feb 6th. I am a 31 year old active female who works out 3-4 times weekly… and for many years. Each station was a 2 minute cycle. Several stations were isolated bicep curl with 5lbs free weights & 12.5 lbs curl bar as well as over the head tricep excercises & flat chest press. In the next 2 days I experienced tightness with mild pain in the left tricep & bicep… good pain, I thought… because it was tolerable. On the 3rd day I developed localized swelling to the medial & posterior brachial aspect of the arm, which progressed. I immediately iced it, started anti-inflams & elevated at bed time. Day 4 the swelling had reduced some what… but I was very concerned, so I saw a GP & PT. They were boggled that the swelling was only localized & that I have 90% ROM & my left arm extension is limited by only appx 10 degrees??? I also have NO bruising! I am having U/S tomorrow to determine if it is a tear in the muscle or tendon… and to determine if it is bicep or tricep. I understand that bicep injuries almost never occur in females, why is this?My only explanation for this type of injury occuring is that I worked out too intensly without warming up properly.

Kidner Procedure

(4 discussions)

My daughter has been having pain in her right foot because the tendon that runs over the accessory navicular bone has been inflamed for about 7 months now. We done the boot cast and the hard cast and our orthopedic doc now wants to do the Kidner Procedure. We are of course unsure about surgery for a 12-year-old, but she is still relying on one crutch to get around because of the pain.
Is there any option besides surgery that we haven’t yet tried?
Is surgery the right thing for her and will she recover without restrictions, as the doc has promised?

severe discomfort and gradual pain in arm

(2 discussions)

Ive been playing the guitar since I was little, now im 14, and a few years ago I fell off a bike and hurt my left arm, I never got a diagnosis and assumed it was a mild sprain that would soon heal. but lately, I can’t even play an entire song on my guitar without extreme discomfort and for the past 6 or 7 months, I feel a long, narrow… something, popping all the way down my arm, when I move it. after use of the arm, it pops like that a lot, and then hurts for a while. sometimes the pain moves into my hhand and next to my thumb as well, but the popping is on the side of my arm and sometimes its particulary loud, loud enough for others to hear. it sounds like cracking your knuckles but in the side of my arm [NOT wrist]. what might this be, and what can I do about it?

It makes it difficutlt to bend my toes and sometimes shoots extreme pain when I step on it.
Just exactly what is a Morton’s neuroma and what should be done.
I have been advised to seek an injection and possibly a surgical resection.

plantar faciitis

I have plantar faciitis(sp?) and thanks to a good podiatrist I am relatively symptom free.
I use orthotics in my shoes.
They work great in my work shoes, and a structured casual shoe, but when I want to wear a tennis shoe all day, like in the summer, my feet kill my by the end of the day.
Is there a tennis shoe out there that has decent support without looking ridiculous?
Even the New Balance shoes are supportive for only a couple weeks, then seem to break down.
