water bed

I’ve just started getting chiropractic treatment and I know a ‘firm mattress’ is recommended.
How does one measure that?
I sometimes sleep on a water bed that is extremely full…does that cause back issues or ‘undo’ the effectiveness of an adjustment?

Back injury

(3 discussions)

My 14 yo daughter is a cheerleader.
Two weeks ago she leaped up onto a stage about waist high and felt a twinge in her left lower back.
It has gotten progressively worse sending pain up into her neck and down into her left leg.
We have iced it and put heat on it without any relief. Ofcourse, she has not stoppped cheering, tumbling (including fulls), etc.
She has been taking Alieve.
What should we do?

Foot advice about insoles

I suffered an accident at school that rolled the long bones and turned the ankle in my left foot, and I now wear an arch support. I get painful skin buildup around the arch support, and I seem to be taking the support in for adjustment frequently. I decided to try an insole, and I chose one from www.walll.com The relief from the pain was almost instant, and I now enjoy my walking. Do you recommend any insoles?

Cervical Disc Herniation

About six months ago I was diagnosed with 2 cervical disk herniations within both the c4/c5 and c6/c7 after an MRI was performed. Instead of surgery I have been going to a chiropractor who has the DRX 9000 Cervical Spinal Decompression machine. The machine has been great but it is very expensive. I can sleep now and the pain does not radiate down my right arm however, I can not jog nor can I walk for extended periods of time. I am only 36 years old and I am wondering how long I need to keep using the decompression machine? Are their any medications/supplements that can speed up the healing process? Do I need to increase the number of times I use the decompression machine? I believe I hurt myself by lifting weights incorrectly. I would like for these herniations to heal so at least I can start being active again.

Upper back tight, trigger point: Computer work

(2 discussions)

I’m suffering from a tight upper back that I assume is tied to my computer work or some injury.
It becomes aggravated when I work on the computer or sit down with my arms in a certain position (forward?).
I’m going to have my right shoulder scoped for an impingement that hasn’t gotten better for abut 1.5 years.
I hate the stiff upper back because I can’t sitdown on my sofa without feeling the tightness and at times my lats (or at least a strand of muscle in that location) twinge and spasm.
It’s not painful but very annoying/aggravating.
I tend to try to stretch my lats and strengthen my middle back but I can’t seem to get the muscles to relax.
Plus if I tilt my head back I feel alot of tightness strain in my neck..Just wondering what I should try.
I’ve gone to a massage specialist but it only relieves it temporarily.
Went to another chiropractor but I felt like she was doing the same thing all the time without any results…

Swollen, itchy, toes – get second opinion?

Hello. I for the past week two of the toes on my right foot have been swollen and itchy.
In the morning when I wake up my toes feel red, swollen, hot, tight, and itchy….not really painful but uncomfortable. during the day they are still swollen but not really red.
the skin feels sore and itchy. it doesn’t hurt to bend but walking is a little uncomfortable and it hurts a little when I squeeze the toe.
There is a red patch of irritated skin on the inner side which seems to be the source of the swelling.
I did see a podiatrist who diagnosed it a vascular problem exacerbated by the cold weather. I do sit have poor circulation in my feet and sitting at work all day in a chilly office makes this diagnosis likely.
However, the swelling and tightness in the morning alarms me, and I’ve read article on the web about psoratic arthitis and RA, which scares me more.
Do you think it’s worth getting a second opinion to rule these things out?
