left arm numbness

(3 discussions)

Dear Sir/MamI have been having problems with my left arm lately especially after I take a nap or when I wakeup my it feels as if there is no blood in my left hand and my left arm is feeling extreamly weak and numb. I know it is not the way I do sleep since I always sleep on my right side or back, I did all my blood work done which did come, out ok with an EKG so I know it is not a heart problem. After I did my MRI, there were mild buldges on e3, e4, e5 and one of them was hitting a nerve but it was not pinching it. I also notice that it gets alot worse after I do Physical Training, I am in the army so I can not get out of it. The army doctor here said that it has nothing to do with my neck and it must be a nerve on my arm. I am really confused and don’t know what to do.Sincerely Alpay Orcan

Corn Removal

I was wondering if there is a surgery to remove corns off my toes.
I have tried over the counter methods and they do not seem to work.
I have some pain due to the fact that I have to wear heals all the time to work.
My toes are not straight, they kind of curl up when my foot is not placed on the ground. Please help me.

Patellafemoral Syndrome

I was recently diagnosed with PFS. I have been doing PT for 3 weeks and it seems to help me better when I do my exercises every other day. I am wondering if I will ever be pain free and if so how long will it take doing PT? There are days I just cry because the pain is so intense. I currently take Vioxx and Tylenol when the pain seems to not want to let up.

Severe Ankle Pain

I have had pain in my right ankle going on 4 months now.
I have seen the doctor 4 times, and a Physiatrist once.
They took an x-ray on my very first visit 3 months ago, and said there was a chip of bone.
When I saw the Physiatrist, she said that it looked like my ligament had started to calcify (on the x-ray).
In the last couple of days, my pain has quickly become so severe I can no longer walk on it.
I also can’t pull my shoes on, because of the pain.
I feel like I am not getting any answers from my doctor, and don’t know where to go from here.
They keep telling me it’s a sprain, and to use R.
I.C.E..
Pain medication is not helping and neither is the ice and elevation.
I don’t think it is a sprain because I have never swelled and it isn’t getting better.
Please help me.

Ankle and shin pain

Last night I was wearing sneakers and walking on a rug when my sneaker scuffed on the rug and made me trip. After this happpened my foot felt weird, almost like a dropped foot. I had trouble walking on it. After awhile and with an ace bandage I was able to walk. I have also iced the ankle. This morning there is a large lump on the front of my ankle and pain there. At times the pain goes up the front of my shin. I plan to see the podiatrist on Monday.

Back Pain vs. Mattress selection

I recently purchased a new mattress that seems fairly firm with a plush pillow top.
The problem is, I am still waking up with lower back pain. I generally sleep on my side in the fetal position.
I am tempted to exchange my new bed for one that was much softer and one I could really sink into.
I am curious to know if a ,attress that’s too soft will do more harm than good.
I did notice one that was very comfortable, but if you sat on the edge of the bed, the mattress would squash down quite a bit.
I’d appreciate any professional advice.

Complete compound Tib/Fib FX

(2 discussions)

Looking for an opinion! Daughter age 9 was hit by a car 10/9 and has a complete compound Tib/Fib FX. Intramedullary rods and new cast with windows for dressing changes. Non weight bearing for 8-10 weeks, surgery scheduled at 12 weeks again. Callous forming, but now the leg is deviating externaly appro. 10 degrees. Doctor says resetting in to neutral position would put us back to square one and may cause more splintering damage.
Her leg is looking “wavy” almost twisted on the xray and doc has said there may be a length decrepency too.
With this combination what should I think about for the future?
I would assume this could cause back problems.
I am an OT and have gotten contradicting opinions from my OT and PT co-workers about leaving this go.
Probably need a second opinion fast. Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you, Michelle

No ACL Exercises

My girlfriend lost her ACL due to a truck on her leg. After rehab over a year ago she can walk, swim, hike, and do yoga.
We’re going to be hiking the Appalachian Trail(2200)miles in about 6 months. Besides walking I really benefit from doing hindu squats. Can she do squatting exercises?
I want to push her to get stronger but I don’t want her doing things she shouldn’t do. Can she do squats?
What exercises can she do?
What exercises should she avoid like the plague?
She is finally getting a brace this week. For the past year she has done all activities without it.
When should she wear it?
