toes

(3 discussions)

Both of my big toes are shaped in an unusual way, the nails tilt upward at the end and the toes are very round and fat looking.
Anyway, because the nails point up I can’t wear most closed toed shoes.
I can wear tennis shoes and sandals.
Pumps, boots, flats, etc. are all out the question as my toe nails press into the top of the shoe and it is painful.
Is there any surgery to correct this?
I’d like to have normal toes so I can wear pretty shoes and nice clothes instead of sweats and tennies all the time.

Shattered Femur

Hello my father suffered a shattered femur about 2-3months ago and is still not allowed to put any pressure on it, before the accident he was very active and enjoyed weightlifting, rollerblading, motorcycles, etc…. But due to the 3 breaks and 2 surgery’s he has been laid up for quite some time, leaving him very depressed. He is currently going to physical theraphy 3X a week, but is still restless. I was wondering if you had any advice about activities he could try. Anything relating to a “normal” life or chore would be great even if it’s just another exercise. Thanks for your time!Sincerly,Kimberly

Orthotics

I had a bunionectomy on both feet – the second surgery approximately 6 weeks after the first.
I asked my doctor what the likelihood of the bunion recurring and was told that it was a very remote possibility.
If so, should I consider being fit for orthotics?
I have a few friends who had the same surgery, but whose bunions were worse than mine and their doctor did not suggest orthotics.
What is the risk if I am not fitted for orthotics?

Toddler…odd walking pattern

Our grandson occasionally “prances” as he walks… He is not yet 2 years old and often goes barefoot.
He places his weight on the inside of his left foot and almost curls his big toe under…changes after only a few steps this way, but sometimes gets off balance and falls.
The family doctor says his leg bones are the same, but we are concerned that the boy might develop some bone problems if he continues this.

Broken ankle therapy

(5 discussions)

I just recently found out that my insurance doesn’t cover physical therapy. After 8 weeks in a cast, I’m anxious to get back to work (waiting tables) and to trail running as quickly as possible. Any suggestions on exercises? Also, should I still be elevating my leg?
I do have some swelling still.

Painful darkish spot on tip of toe

I am a dancer and my toes are sort of curled. I have gotten painful tiny red bumps on the tip of my toes before, and the doctors have said this is becuase instead of walking flat on the tone bone, the bone curls and pokes my skin from the inside. They normally just give me a roll of cotten to keep under my toe to elevate it. This time the bump is basically flat, but painful to touch. Its s tiny circle, with a lighter color in the middle, and a dark ring around it. Nothing is making it feel better and it hurts to move.
