Pain after surgery

I had a sesamoid bone removed from my big toe (the tendon had to be cut to get to the sesamoid) and at the base of the joint – they removed a chondyle that was found…..surgery was on 5/15 – my incision is still healing – sutures were to be removed yesterday but I was not healed yet.
My pain/discomfort however is primarily in the top of the big toe – near the nail – it is very sore.
Is this common???
I do not have that much pain or discomfort in the area of the surgery – which I find odd.
Could this be a referred pain?

I certainly would recommend an examination and a re-Xray.
