Pain in back of neck

I have had a dull pain in the back of my neck for some awhile now. It is located on the left side of my neck just below the base of my skull somewhat behind my ear. What could this be? I’m scared to go to the dr. What muscles, bones are back there??

Don’t be scared to go to the doctor. You really should get it looked at if you are concerned.
