Pain in neck/shoulder

(2 discussions)

I have been suffering from pain in neck (base of skull) and shoulder area for years. I wake up mornings with very bad headaches. I have tried stretching, new bed and new pillows, pain relievers, you name it with no relief. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks, Terry

Terry, so have I. For the past year I have had the same symptoms which included the headache, pain in the shoulders and throbbing at night of the upper spinal column. I had numerous tests including CT Scans of my head, MRI’s and MRA’s of my head until my doctor ordered an MRI of my cervical column. This test concluded that I have a bulging of vertabra #6 and #7 which causes numbness and pain exactly where I was experiencing the pain. I have not had a followup to determind if anything should be done but for now, I’m glad it’s nothing more.

I have found that because I am a coffee drinker, if I do not have an early evening cup of coffee, I will awake with this very same kind of headache. I have read that this can be related to caffiene withdrawal. I usually have a cup of coffee around 7:00 to prevent the early a.m. headache. M
