Pain in Tail Bone Area

(21 discussions)

For about the last 3 or 4 months I have been experiencing pain in my tail bone.
It is especially bad after sitting for a long period of time in an airline seat or other seat that press against the tail bone area.
It seems to be worse if I tighten my muscles around the area.
It hurts less when I relax them.

I have been suffering with pain in my tail bone for about a month and it’s getting worse. I’m going for an xray to see if there is anything that the Doctor might see. When I feel the bone it seems like there could be a tumor there but I don’t know if that is just the shape of the bone.If anyone has found out any info on this problem please write back on my aol email [email protected] you, Robin

I’ve had this pain too for the last week or so, doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I don’t think its piles as I’m quite fit and don’t eat too bad and it doesn’t hurt when going to toilet. Anyone got any ideas? I don’t remember knocking it at all though it feels bruised…

I’ve had the same pain for almost 3 months. I just started working at night 10 hour shift as a corrections officer and I sit most of the shift in a variety of chairs. I had x-rays done last week and haven’t gotten the results yet- I hope it’s curable because it is getting worse. Even hurts now when I sit in bed and it’s a soft mattress. Oh the doctor did give me muscle relaxers that seem to help.

I gave birth to my son almost 3 years ago and I remember the worst of my pain after delivery was in my tail bone and I swore to anyone who would listen that it was broke. The Dr. did give me a pain medicine, that helped. But here it is 3 years later, and I still have pain from time to time and right now it is bothering me again and seems to be getting worse than before. I try sitting with better posture, that seems to help a little, but enough. I wonder if I should go to a primary care Dr. back to the OBGYN(sounds unlikely but, that is where it started) or maybe to a chiropractor? Anyone got any advise?

I have had the same thing for the past few months. Thought the padding in my motorbike seat must be crushed & that was the cause. Have gone as far as putting the bike up for sale. I realised tonight the pain is still there & I haven’t ridden the bike in over a week. Did a cursory glance on the net & found some interesting information. The pain is most intense when getting up from a seated position. http://www.coccyx.org describes my pain exactly – could be a spur, elongated or fused coccyx, hypermobility etc etc etc – have a look and then have a chat to your doctor.

I have no health insurance

: For about the last 3 or 4 months I have been experiencing pain in my tail bone. It is especially bad after sitting for a long period of time. It especially hurts if I set up in Bed and watch TV. I bought a special cushion, it does take the pressure off. But right now, as I type it is very sore. I do have scolosis of the spine/arthritis. Do I need to see a specialist, I am taking Fosamax 70mg once a week.

What I have found is that it is usually a problem called coccydynia. Search on this at google, you may find what you are looking for.
