Pain in Thumb

(3 discussions)

For a couple of weeks my right thumb was only bending with a distinctive “click” in the top joint.
This click would happen when bending my thumb down and back to the straight position. Now, my lower joint is sore to touch and I can no longer even bend my upper joint (closest to the nail).
If knocked against anything, it is very painful. Also, my thumb has become some what swollen.
The swelling is just enough to have removed the creases over the top joint, whereas my left thumb shows creases over the joint. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

I have had the exact same thing going on in my right thumb for 3 months now. I have been to the Dr. twice. The first time they gave me a thumb splint and told me to keep it immobilized for 6 weeks. That made it worse. After I quite using the splint I could not move the thumb joints at all without PAIN! I went back to the Dr. and they took 6 x-rays from every angle. They told me the x-rays were negative? I am still having lots of pain and now weekness in my hand. This seemed to start following a night out bowling – something I have not done in 20 years.Any ideas?
