pain in upper rib area and shoulder blade

(2 discussions)

I have had a constant pain in the rib area under my right arm and into my right shoulder blade.
It almost feels like something is poking from the inside out.
I have had it for about 3 or 4 months now.
I was given some anti inflammatories and muscle relaxers which seem to help a little but only for about a week. It seems better to have my arm lifted a little than to let it rest at my side.
I have had a chest x-ray and MRI and they didn’t see anything. Any ideas?

Hello Leslie – I have been in a similar situation for about 3.5 months now. My pain started with my sitting at a computer for long hours (I’m a programmer) and over the course of day I get a progressively worsening pain in my left upper back between my left shoulder blade and spine, accompanied by shooting numbness/tingling through my heart and out to my front left chest/upper rib area. It feels like I’m getting a slight numbness in my left hand, but it’s hard to tell. I’ve gotten an X-Ray and CT scan, but the tests were inconclusive. I’m now thinking about acupuncture/chiropractor/physical therapy but the doctor wants to get a diagnosis first. Anyways, I just wanted to ask you to let me know if you figure out a diagnosis/effective treatment, and I’ll do the same. Good luck,Mark Davis

Mark / leslieI have been suffering fo about 3 weeks . Burning in my left shoulder blade / tingling in my left arm and pains in my left breast bone. Doctor diagnosed trapped nerve but its only slightly better. I also work all day on a pc and have a young son which I carry a lot. I’m wondering if we have similar problems. I have been told to give the pain killers another week . Have you any progress. Thanks
