pain on top of foot

The pain on top of my foot only becomes unbearable when I lay down. It’s a throbing, stabbing pain. The more active I am,the worse it becomes. But it seems to subside if I take a few days off from my usual activities. I also feel a slight bump on top of my foot. What could it be?
