Pain under left shoulder blade

(3 discussions)

I have always had pain under my left shoulder blade off and on for as long as I can remember.
It seems to worsen with stress.
It is a very dull ache type feeling. Recently I noticed is has gotten almost unbearable especially when taking a very deep breath.
I have no idea what is causing this.
I do work out every day but not very aggressively.
I do shoulder exercises once a week and maybe aggravated something, but the pain is not subsiding after one week. Any suggestions?
I don’t want to overlook something that may be underlying or serious. Thanks!

Could be mechanical (rib out, muscular etc). Also, pains that occur under the shoulder blade may signal a warning that the pain is not in the shoulder itself, but can be related to a pain from one of the organs in the body. Pain under the left shoulder blade can be a signal that there is a problem with the stomach or other abdominal structures (ulcers, pancreatitis, ectopic pregnancy) or in the chest (myocardial infarction [heart attack], pericarditis, pleuritis, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, aortic dissection). Pain under the right shoulder blade can be a signal of a gall-bladder inflammation or gallstones. Or it can relate to liver disease, or a problem with the duodenum. Go to a chiropractor or your family doctor and get checked out.

i have pain under my left shoulder blade, I haven’t had any injury. Last year I had a stomach ulcer removed, I also have an over acctive thyroid. I am on medication for the thyroid, and arthritis I am starting to get a bit worried.

I also have pain under my left shoulder blade. It seems to radiate down the left side and under my armpit. I have not suffered any recent injury and the intensity of the pain varies.
