painful first metatarsel

Hi guys. I study martial arts and a few months ago I injured my big toe when I kicked someone it bent the big toe back like “stubbing.” The large bone that sticks out at the bottom of my big toe is very painful to the touch and feels like its constantly on fire it doesn’t really hurt to walk unless I have been on my feet for a while I can’t bend it back very far. any ideas what I may have done? every since the injury it doesn’t take much to aggravate it like if I stump it on my coffee table would love your opinion and should I get an xray?… Thanks

I recommend you get an x-ray. I usually will x-ray the other foot for purposed of comparison. It is very possible you have injured this. If nothing shows up well, then a MRI may be indicated.
