patellar tendonitis

(2 discussions)

I acquired jumper’s knee from bicycling for long distances up hill. At first I thought it might have been articular because I didn’t think that tendonitis could happen from a purely concentric activity like bicycling. But then I tried to jog and it began to hurt more. I have quit all activity, taken ibuprofin, and used ice massage at the inferior pole of the patella. The pain still lingers though – not bad pain, just noticeable upon terminal knee extension and squatting on the affected lower extremity. I am afraid it is a chronic problem – Should I try friction massage? Any suggestions? I need to be able to run 1.5 miles in 9 weeks for officer training school.

I play basketball for a univeristy team and this is my 3rd year. Ever since grade 11 I have been experiencing a severe pain in the patella area of my left (jumping) knee. I am quite sure it is patella tendonitis, what I want to know is any further treatments you would recommend I use during a very tightly sceduled basketball season. Your advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
