peroneal tendon question

(4 discussions)

Can you flex your foot and bend your toes if the peroneal tendons are ruptured? If the tendon is not ruptured is there a reason to be non weight bearing for a month…i.e if it is just strained?

Short answers are Yes and yes, to be on the safe side. Without more information than you provided, I would take the conservative approach and immobilize even if the tendon is not torn.BTW, was this diagnosed with a MRI?

My podiatrist put me on non weight bearing based on the physical exam, before plain x-rays. She thought it might be the peroneal brevis, with possible avulsion of the 5th metatarsal, but the x-rays show no fracture, and she’s been out of the office so I can’t ask her. No MRI was done. I’m afraid of being on crutches etc. for 4 weeks if I don’t have to be, thus the question about the toes. Thank you for your answer. At least I know I really should be conservative and patient until she returns.

I’m sorry about your situation Don Luis. That’s what I’m trying to avoid…complications. Good luck on the 2nd opinion.
