physical therapy for achilles tendon

(4 discussions)

I had achilles tendon repair surgury Aug 24,2015 and have been to two follow up appts with my surgical Dr.
I no longer have insurance and would like to know what I can do at home to help heal my injury.
I am not able to afford physical therapy and am worried about not healing properly. Thank you.

You should do a lot of stretching on both ankles. whatever leg is hurting stretch against the wall. do this by picking up pennies with your toes. whichever foot is hurting you want to pick up pennies and marbles with your toes and place them in a cereal bowl. if you can find some rubber, with both hands pushing down with the bottom of your foot, push against the rubber, do this sitting. try to get into a routine everyday and concentrate on doing these for right now. I tore my achilles tendon also, I am an athlete and used these therapies for recover.

so 1st do the stretch with your tendon acl against the wall by pushing against the wall. or you can bend on all 4s, hands and feet, in a v shape on the floor and use one leg stretching out your tendon. the 2nd thing you want to try is putting a towl on the floor and wrinkling up the towel with your toes or bringing the towel to you with only your toes and picking up marbles off the floor standing or sitting and putting them into a container or bowl. concentrate on that for the first month of rehab and massage your achilles after each session. you can do toes raises with a towel by sitting on the floor in a 90 degree angle and with your back against the wall.

I’m being fitted for a molded ankle/foot cast for achilles tendonopothy that I’ll be wearing for 6-8 weeks. How does this resolve the problem and what should I be thinking about or doing once I’m no longer wearing the casr
