Please help…7 year old with horizontal crack on toe nail
Hello everyone..My seven year old daughter has a horizontal crack at the base of her toenail(where it grows out). Does anyone know what can cause this? I would have chalked it up to a kid just being rough on her body…but she has the same thing on one of her fingernails. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This usually indicates some type of trauma to the nail. You can watch it and see it as it grows forward. Fingernails take 6 months to grow out and toenails about 1 year.If you are concerned make an appointment with a podiatrist or dermatologist.
