(2 discussions)

I have a re-fracture of the 5th meditasal (sp).
My doctor is trying to say that a orthopedic doctor is better to see than a Poditrist.. Is this true?

As a podiatirst, I say we have the training to deal best with foot problems. There are orthopedists who also specialize in the foot as well. They have more training regarding the foot than does a general orthopedist. Doctors have different views on other doctors based on many things such as personal experience, reports from other patients, perception and probably in this case a misconception. Podiatrists and orthopedists are now working together in greater numbers. There are many fields that overlap in medicine. Orthopedist and neurosurgeons both deal with spinal problems. Pain management doctors also do spinal injections. I could go on and on, but hopefully you see the point.
You might ask other who have seen one or the other for their opinion.

I have a broken accessory bone. I have been seeing a podiatrist. Should I be seeing an orthopedist instead?
