Possible torn maniscus

(3 discussions)

2 years ago I hurt my left knee. Three therapy sessions with ultrasound fixed me right up. Now I have right knee pain. Rather than therapy, the new doctor wants to start with a very expensive MRI rather than try ing therapy first.
Why?

I have already been to my sports medicine surgeon and have been diagnosed with a torn and bruised maniscus as seen in the mri. This happened sometime between March and June. Although it is much better now, I would like to know if there are some PT exercises that I could do do to speed up the strength of my knee. My hiking season starts in about three weeks and I am afraid that it will not be strond enough to carry a pack. Thank you

Hello,My name is Tina and I too have been told I have a possible torn Miniscus. I did the MRI thing and my doctor felt it was inconclusive.Looking at the date you posted this, I assume your past this now. What did you decide on? How did your knee turn out? My doctor is still sticking to the torn maniscus and wants to do surgery next month(Nov. 2004). I did a month of therapy and iced and elivated after the diagnosis. I did get the swelling down but still have pain daily. I would be interested how your knee turned out.SincerelyTina MilatMontana

I have a slight tear of the maniscus and cartelidge in my r. knee. My surgeon feels that they are insignificant for surgery. I do have pain, tho. He said that alot of knee pain is a result of problems in the hip. Even tho there is no hip pain. Xray should slight arthritis of r. hip. My sacro-iliac joint “goes out” regularly and this could be the cause of knee & leg pain. Will be seeing a physiatrist who can assist me and also give cortisone injection into SI joint. This can cause pain relief. Any one else?
