Pronated ankles

I have had severly pronated ankles all my life (am now 54)and have always worn orthonics, however, they do not help.
I have trouble walking any distance, as in the grocery store etc.
I have been trying to find the four quandrants of my feet and realize I never walked on my heels.
For the past 2 years I have been trying to align my ankles over my heels and it is a slow process.
Is there any treatment for severely pronated ankles other than orthonics?
Can they be corrected?
Also, my right leg was somehow twisted outward and I have been attempting to realign it by finding the 4 quafrants on my foot.
It is affecting my hip and goes into by buttocks. Affecting the piriformis muscle.
Could corrective shoes help?
Would a podiatrist fit corrective shoes? As I try to correct my right foot my thigh and hamstrings seems to be turning inward.
Any advise would be appreciated!

There is no right or wrong here. A podiatrist specializes in the foot and ankle. An orthopedist specializes in the musculoskeletal system of the whole body. Usually, either specialist would be appropriate, but since I am a podiatrist, you have to figure, I would recommend a colleague. Either way, good luck
