pulled pectoral muscle

I pulled my pectoral muscle pretty badly some time ago. Everything has healed alright, but I have this hard lump that’s basically in line with my sternum.
I’ve heard that from bad tears, scar tissue can develop.
What should I do about this? Just let it be, massage therapist, physical therapist – will it just work itself out with exercise? Thanks.

I injured muscles in the Pectoral area of my chest and muscles or muscle in my back (I am guessing the Latissimus Dorsi) where it attaches to the scapula. The injury was many years ago. I may have been in high school when it ocurred. I am now 55 years old. For the past year I have been reducing my weight and exercising regularly. I ride bicycle on the weekends do pushups in the morning and evenings. I have also been using 35 pound dumbbell weights to help strengthen my upper body. While doing pushups I felt a stinging in my back and peck area. It was in the area of the injured muscles. The pain is not intense, but it has made me afraid that I may have injured the muscles again. Can I have injured the muscles again by just doing pushups? I am sure that the old injury was a partial tear in both the front and back of my upper thoracic areas. There is a bulge under the skin in the peck area and a depression in the area of the scapula. THis condition is really irritating and I want to continue my exercise program. For the past week I have stopped all exercise. I want to find out if I need to speak with a doctor and who or what type should I consult? Can this condition be repaired or rehabilitated? My chest area (for want of a better description) “Pops” -similar to cracking your knuckels- when I flex my muscles.
