quadricep repair

(6 discussions)

Hi, From a fall I have a total quadricep tendon separation. The earliest date I can get for a surgery will be 11 days after the fall. Other than ice (and far too much vicodin), anything I should be doing before surgery? Is 11 days after the injury for surgery a concern? Also post surgery any recommendations of things I should make sure takes place in rehab and anything I should be sure NOT to do? Is the expected outcome for tendon repair good? So far its on my top 5 list for incredible pain opportunities. Thx,Steve

I’m afraid to ask what your other 4 are…. I just got done rehabing a 75 year old with a quad tendon repair and he did great!! You will be put in some sort of a brace most likely to prevent you from bending your knee according to your doctors protocol. Then he may “open” the brace, and that means giving you more freedom to flex the knee, but you will be limited to how much. My gentleman was limited to 90 degrees for a few weeks then we were able to work him up to 130. Actually, he really didn’t have much pain, but he did his exercises DAILY and that is the key. Don’t be a slacker and listen to your PT.

SteveI also slipped and fell and had a complete quadricep tendon rupture. The operation was on February 14, 2013.I was in a cast for 7 weeks. It will be 14 weeks since my surgery and I am not 100%. I still cannot walk down the stairs and it is difficult to walk upstairs. Everyday it does get better. After I got the cast off, I started swimming everyday. A few weeks ago I started riding the stationary bicycle. The Doctor says it will be 9 months to a year before complete recovery. Any commentsBob

I have just undergone surgery for a Quadricep repair. According to my othorpedic surgeon he did not have to drill holes thru bone to re attache the tendon it appears that there was enough tissue left on the bone to stitch the damaged tendon to. I am now in a cast for the next 5 or 6 weeks, I would like to know what the length and rehabilitation is for recovery. Thanks

: I have broken my elbow just below the shoulder. I have a cast and it seems to be too tight. Should my arm below and fingers continue to swelland cause the pain to be excruciating. Also what is the recovery time for this type of broken bone.: Thanks
