Quadricept Tendon Rupture

(5 discussions)

My husband just ruptured his quadricept tendon.
It was reattached thru surgery last week.
When is it recommended to start PT?
What kind of PT? He is an avid tennis player, 60 yrs old and chomping at the bit to be doing something.
He is on crutches with an immobilizer to keep knee straight.Pls help the suffering nurse/wife with some advice. Thanks Linda Heise

I had this surgery on Dec 2 and am still recovering. I was told to expect 8 months recovery and I’m beginning to believe it. I’m in my late 40s and in pretty good shape. I have been doing 2 – 3 hours of therapy for about 2 months now and that’s the only way I’ve been seeing progress. Go to a PT and do everything they say. Ask for more and do more than the ask. It will pay off. He will get depressed and belly-ache about everything. I did but I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (hope it’s not a train).Sorry for the not so rosy picture but at least its the truth.

I had operation for quadricep rupture 1at june 2016 and I am recuperating very well. I have full range of motion of knee and iam walking without crutches or any knee support. Still difficult walking on downhill slope or down stairs but can walk with virtually no limping on the flat or uphill. I was in full leg plaster for 4 weeks followed by hinged knee brace for 2-3 weeks. Please feel free to email for any further details or just to discuss generally. Good luck, Gordon

I ruptured my right quadricept tendons on 10/20/06 and had them surgically repaired on 10/26/06. I am a faily active person who is anxous to get back to full mobility. I also have an impatient side which I fear might lead me to interfere with the proper healing process. They say I can put full weight on the leg while it is in the brace. Is it good to go for walks or stand on it for long periods of time? Is there a better brace that anyone can recomend rather than the hot foam stap brace they gave me in the hospital? Does the swelling go down after a few weeks?

I’ve had a quadricept completely ripped from a knee. It’s been eight months since reattachment. The lateral muscles are slowly coming back. Crutches are still required. My surgeon can’t estimate how long healing will take. Can you please recommend a specific brace which will allow mobility without the crutches?

I’m a little disheartened reading some of the posts here. I had the surgery on 2/2/07 and was told that after three months I could ride bike again, and that after six months I should be pretty much back to my normal activity level. Is this being too optimistic, based on others’ personal experience? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. PT will likely begin soon.
