hello, i’m 15 and ever since I was about 12 both of my knees began to dislocate randomly. Its happened about 10-15 times, but the doctors didn’t really tell me to do anything…but they gave me a really nice brace. I would suggest getting a brace that can lock in different positions like mine…if u want it to bend freely it can, but sometimes it can feel more comfortable to locked it in a straight position. Take care.

Wat u need 2 do is wear a splint and keep it straight for about 4 weeks depending on how bad the disloactaion was to the patella, there could be ligement damage, but this will be obvious to yourself from when you walk unaidied. If you are pain free then you have most likely not teared your ligemenets but instead just sprained or over stretched them. With your leg in a splint for a month your muscles in your leg will deteriate and will need to be built back up with physiotherapy.

Hey, I’m 16 and my knee cap has been dislocating one or twice a year since I was about 12 or 13. I just did it again last night. The pain seems to vary and last night it wasn’t too bad. I went to the doctor a while ago, and he said that doing leg raises will strengthen the muscles and prevent it from happening again or as often. I think wearing a brace will also help. You probably shouldn’t go to school again until your knee is pain-free and you feel comfortable using it, and even then, you should probably wear a brace. Good luck!

Andy, I’m really surprised they let you go back to school so quickly also. I dislocated my knee cap during gymnastics and I was unable to walk for months. I, like you, am also very afraid that I will redislocate. The piece of advice that I have to give you is that only you know how you feel. If you suddenly feel like your kneecap is unstable, no matter where you are, stop. No matter what anyone says. Before I dislocated my kneecap I said to myself “wow I might get hurt doing this”. I regretted not following my first thoughts. Always listen to that little voice in the back of your mind. You know best!

Hey Andy. I’m a fifteen year old and I too love to dance. I just recently disslocated my knee and I’ll be on crutches for a couple weeks. I currently have a bulky knee brace that the hospital gave me. However I will be seeing an orthopedic doctor. What I’m suggesting is maybe if you saw an orthopedic doctor they could suggest the right knee brace for you. That should do the trick!
