Bicycling is a great first sport to return to. It may take 9 to 12 months for full recovery. A good progressive walking program can be good also. Start your hiking slowly, when you have full range of motion. Start doing calf raises/heel raises, 20 per day building up to 5 sets of 20 per day. Ask you surgeon about doing this first. You should be able to return to full athletic activites after 9 to 12 months. Climbing puts lots of strain on the achilles but you should be able to do it. Good question.
