recovery from severed tendon

About two months ago, I severed the tendon on the top of my big toe, right at the base of the toe.
I had the tendon reattached, and was placed in a cast for five weeks.
I have had my cast off for about a month now.
The scar isn’t too bad, but my toe is still pretty swollen (I still can’t wear many of my shoes).
Also, as the swelling went down, I noticed a small raised bump (about the size of a dime) about an half an inch below my stiches.
It is slightly tender to the touch (it was much more so before).
I’m pretty sure it’s aligned with where my tendon continues down my foot.
Is it normal to still have swelling months after such an accident?
I’m also wondering about this bump…could it be from irritation from rubbing against the cast, or a calcium deposit (?) or something?
At what point is it a good idea to go back to the doctor?
I’m not in any pain (apart from when I’m wearing most of my shoes). Thanks for your help!sg

Since I can’t examine your foot, I am speculating. As atendon heals, a tendon callus will form similar to the way a bone heals. After the inside remodels then gradually the outside “bump” will diminish.A diagnostic ultrasound or MRI might be helpful to see what is going on. I always tell my patients even after I have discharged them, if they have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to call the office.Call your doctor
