Recurring quad injury

(3 discussions)

I pulled my right quad jumping over a softball rolling towards me two summers ago – freakiest injury I’ve ever had.
Intense pain, I couldn’t run at all.
I spent the rest of that summer plating various sports in pain. Last summer was fine but then this summer I started with an Ultimate frisbee tournament and while running in the fourth game of the first day, I reaggrevated it.
I play hockey, soccer, ultimate, and ride mountain bikes – I stretch and use deep heat and a neoprene thigh sleeve which prevents further injury, but I am not fixing the injury.
It is not the push off but recoil or pull through of my leg that causes the pain. Any suggestions for rehab/strengthening would be greatly appreciated.Rob.

O did something to my quad last year in football, I think I pulled it, but any ways I was being timed for a 40 yd sprint and I pulled it again. I kept on practicing and a week later when I was pulling I felt a pop or something similar to it and I fell to my knees in pain. For five or ten minutes I could not lift my leg. Well I went to the trainer and she said that I tore it and I started to do exercises. Well it started feeling better than it was in a couple of days but when I went to try and jogg I had another huge pain hit me and I almost went to the ground again. What did I do?, how can I fix it?, and how long will it take? It is my last year in high school football and I have scouts to look at me so I want to get back into the saddle again soon. Thank you so much Aaron

Hi.About a week ago I pulled my quad from jogging alot. It was healing fine and I started to jog in gym because I sat out that week because of the running. We are now playing softball in gym and everything was fine. We ran around the bases very lightly. Then we did a drill sprinting from 2nd to home. Right when I got to home plate, I felt an excruciating pain go up my leg. I realize I pulled my quad again. I went to the school nurse and she said that I should just put ice on it and right now it still hurts but I am not limping as much as when it first happened. My mom read some articles saying that a heating pad works better than ice. Is that true? Any suggestions, let me know. Thanks.
