Rehab suggestions for 5th metatarsal recovery
Not sure if this is a good place to ask..but here goes… I broke my 5th metatarsal about 2 1/2 weeks ago…recently graduated from the aircast to a light weight, flat surgical shoe…. I do not have health insurance so going to a physical therapist for rehabilitation is out of the question… I would like suggestions or ideas on how to rehab my foot on my own…in detail….please…exercises I should be doing or not doing… I still have a little pain and my foot is very stiff as it would be due to being in the aircast…any help would be greatly appreciated.Lexy

: LexyStretch your ankle as if you were going to run. Ride a stationary cycle for leg and cardiovascular strength. Put a baseball or can down on the floor and roll your foot around on it, firm but comfortable pressure. Start some walking as soon as you can walk normal and without pain. Gently stretch your foot bones as if giving a foot massage. This type of fx. can take 6 to 8 weeks to heal and 6 yo 8 more to get 100% comfortable.
