Retrocalcaneal Exostectomy Surgery

(2 discussions)

I am considering having the above captioned surgery on my right foot and need to make a decision asap due to other factors in my life.
Could you please advise as to a rough idea of how long the recovery period is?
For example, approxmiately how long would I be on crutches, in a shoe boot and how long before I can function for the most part normally again?
Please advise ASAP.
Thank you so much.

Your doctor can best answer this question. There are variations on the surgeries and patients all have different variables. As with any surgery, there will be differences between what one doctor does vs. another.

I had my right foot done a few years ago, and am currently recovering from having my left foot done on December 10. The right foot was so successful that I felt good about getting the left foot done.Recovering from this one Now I think I’ll be another two weeks before going to physical therapy, and of course that makes it hurt again… So, I think it’s about two months before you can walk unassisted, but I recall it’s about a year until you finally feel that you’re over it. I did lose some of my tippy-toe ability on my right foot, so I may never be able to tippy-toe again. Only time will tell. BUT – the long term lack of pain is definitely something I’m looking forward to!: I am considering having the above captioned surgery on my right foot and need to make a decision asap due to other factors in my life.
