Returning to basketball after broken foot…

I broke a pretty major bone along the top of my foot and have gotten a release from my podiatrist to play just recently. Is there a brace I should get or a way of taping my foot to add support? I’m a little nervous about playing and getting re-injured, but I’m too competetive to be released and still not play. I’d appreciate any advice.

Before you actually get into a real game, do some plyometric activities to see how your foot is going to react. Plyometrics is a jumping, hopping sort of activity. Start by hopping in place on both feet about 10-12 inches off the floor for 30-60 seconds and see how that feels. Try skipping, hopping while translating forward. Having your ankle taped would not be a bad idea… Do you have an athletic trainer that can do that for you? Also, have you had PT and strengthening exercises for your ankle? Do a search for plyometrics on the net and you can get some good info there. Good luck
