rib pain

the other day I lifted a very large bag f dog food- it fell up against me and I heard a popping sound- I have been very sore- not really in pain- just more soreness- what could the possibleinjury be and what can I do?

Thanks doc for the quick reply- the rib pain hurts about 4 fingers width beneath my left breast – on the side- does not hurt real bad- just extremely sore- ibuprofen does seem to help a lot- my nephew is a chiropractor- how long should the pain last normally and then I should go see him? Thanks!

I bruised my ribs one time dumping a dirt bike. Took about 2-3 weeks for the pain to subside.

Where does it hurt? Side, back or sternum? Possible causes are rib fracture, rib bruising. Probably a rib bruise, a fracture hurts like hell (everytime you breath). Been there, done that. Ice the area, take OTC pain medication, should clear up. If not, go see chiropractor, have some films done.

I was laying down and somone in my family crawled on top of me. When they did I heard a popping sound. I don’t hurt when I breath but its tender when I touch a certain rib. Do they just move somtimes with pressure?
