RSD

Can you give me some insite into this condition? How sucessful are the nerve blocks and are their risks associated with them? The neorontin the recommended drug is not working and I wasn’t sure if this option was my only one? What about alternative treatments such as Accupuncture?
Thanks for your insite in advance

RSD is also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. There are different stages. You did not indicate what stage you are in. When I think a patient has RSD, I will refer to a neurologist for evaluation. Sometimes I will send to a pain management specialist. There are many things that are tried for this most difficult condition and what works on one may not on another. Neurontin can be helpful, but as you said not always. There are other medications that can be tried as well. Electrical stim, interferential wave form etc have been known to help. I can not really say if Acupuncture is helpful or not for this condition. If you will do a Google search for this you can probably get alot of information.

Thank you for your response. I have no idea what stage I am in, when I met with the pain clinic(Anestesiologist)he said he didn’t even know if I had it or not because the pain is not near as intense as what most ppl experience. I asked then how do I know if I have it or not and he said if the block works then you had it…that just wasn’t enough for me to get a needle in my back…..they haven’t been very helpful at all….all I did was slip on a stair 5 months ago and its still bothering me…any other ideas you have would be appreciated.
