ruptured Achilles tendon

(2 discussions)

I am a 63 year old male, active, good physical condition.
I totally ruptured my Achilles – had surgery on 9/18. I was in a splint for 2 weeks then a cast for 4 weeks, have just had 4 weeks of therapy.
The doctor released me from the walking boot and crutches one week ago — but, I am still using crutches to lessen the pain and swelling.
I’ve had the pain and swelling for 11 weeks.
When can I expect the pain and swelling to get better?
What can I do to improve the pain and swelling situation? My foot now is almost to the flat level position – I am doing exercises 2-3 times a day and try to walk some without my crutches. Any advice you have regarding home therapy, activity, etc. will be appreciated! Thanks.
