Ruptured bicep tendon

(2 discussions)

Just returned from the doctor. He told me I ruptured my bicep tendon. We discussed surgery or no surgery and I’m trying to make up my mind. My only question is……. can I wait? What if I say no now and then nothing improves and I want to have surgery later? Can I, or is it now or never? Thanks!

My surgeon told me that if I waited, it would be a pain in the ass to repair later. The tendon and muscle will continue to retract and an extension of some sort would be needed to re-connect. I’d get it done ASAP

If it was your distal bicep tendon and you havn’t made a decision then it may be too late. I waited a month (because of a misdiagnosis) and almost had to have a tendon graft. I have a slight loss of extension and outward rotation in the repaired arm and the surgery was a pain in the arse the Dr. said. 6 hrs in surgery with a Dr. standing by to harvest a tendon from my knee (since I only have 2 in my wrist). They didn’t take the one from the knee because they were able to trim and stretch the tendon enough but with said loss of motion. Get the surgery.
